Three Cheers For Swap Night!

The Ninja went above and beyond the call of duty to make this swap possible... making stitch markers, sewing lavender satchets, putting all the gift bags together, schlepping her HUGE swap stash to the event and remaining calm while I madly searched for my not-missing wallet before we left for KOL. So three cheers for her:

Hip, Hip, Hooray!

Hip, Hip, Hooray!

Hip, Hip, Hooraaaaaaaaay!!

Also, three cheers for all the entire KOL group for the graciousness and restraint* you all showed when the Good Yarn was being "auctioned" off last night.

Hip, Hip, Hooray!

Hip, Hip, Hooray!

Hip, Hip, Hooraaaaaaaaay!!

This was quite possibly the best KOL night EVAH!**

I've never seen Rock, Paper, Scissors work so peacefully to settle disputes as it did last night. World leaders should sit up and pay attention - the world would be a better place if you could settle arguments so quickly and efficiently and without whining.

Not to get too sappy and/or philisophical on you, but I think that last night showed why knitters (and maybe just human beings in general) are wonderful. Each of us had different goals - some wanted to leave with lighter loads, others didn't want to take more than they felt they had contributed, and everyone wanted to have a great time.

While everyone joked that they would stab someone with blunt double-points for particular skeins, it was very nice to hear people say, "Oh, you didn't get anything yet - you go ahead." or "You really want it, take it." It was even good to see people standing up for their choices and asking for a Rock, Paper, Scissors throw down.

I hope that last night exceeded everyone's expectations and goals and I hope that no one left feeling they hadn't gotten at least one skein that they really wanted.

Thanks, as always, to the fine baristas at The Wired Monk for putting up with the chaos. Big cheers for the nice coffee-slinger who brought out the extra chairs and turned down the music for us.

Hip, Hip, Hooray!

Hip, Hip, Hooray!

Hip, Hip, Hooraaaaaaaaay!!

I hope we weren't too loud down there.

And finally, a fond farewell to the Geek, who is leaving us behind as she follows moves to the Big City. Henry is grief stricken and has taken to bed. He's at home now watching Casablanca, weeping and eating Ben and Jerry's. This morning he snapped at Mauve, who is gravely concerned about his well-being. (Incidentally, Geek, I didn't know that you were still blogging, so I didn't intend to snub you by not leaving comments.)

*ok, I admit to not showing restraint when that ball of Seawool flew by my head
**And that includes the night that Jaichan gave us the word Merkin after I told the crotch story.

I had a terrific time, left with the best haul of the bunch, and have never felt more like part of a community. Heartfelt thanks to Ninja Deb and absolutely everyone else.

It was fun. sorry I had to leave early. What happened to the leftovers? Steph, how'd your grammy make out?

Grammy doesn't know it yet - but she's got enough yarn to make mittens for about a dozen kids.

Awww, shucks. Thanks to you all for making it a really fun night. I'm delighted that it went off without a hitch, and that everyone seemed to get something that they loved.

Again, thanks go to Steph and Terra for their big contributions to the evening's festivities.

Geek, you will be sorely missed. Come back and visit us soon! I'll be back at KOL after this school term - try and schedule your visit around then. :P

Thanks so much to Deb for organizing such a great night at KOL. I still feel like a newby, but this past Tuesday really made me feel like one of the gang :)

On that note, could someone add my blog to the list on this site? It's aspecialweirdness.wordpress.com

I will miss you all this coming Tuesday, as I will be knitting my little heart out at a rented cottage in PEI.

Oh, and lastly, a big thank-you to Steph for letting me take all the bits and bobs for my friend Devon. I know she'll love knitting socks and mittens for her kids from the beautiful leftovers.

Cheers!
Natalie

Hi Knitters!

Sounds like the KOL has been having some eventful evenings!.. we're SO happy that you've chosen to do all your festive knitting, etc.. at the Monk. :) I'm leaving this blog rather last minute, I'm very sorry to say - and I hope that enough of the group reads this before tomorrow evening! I just remembered that you guys come on Tuesday evenings this afternoon while thinking about our Staff Meeting that we're having tomorrow night at 7:30pm at the Monk. We're closing up between 7 and 7:30 and then having a big summer debrief/intro to the fall/winter season meeting! This was the only evening that could work for all of our staffies and it's super important to us that everyone's there. I feel horrible thinking about the KOL potentially homeless for a week. Is there an alternate location that works easily for everyone? If Mike and I lived closer (we live just past Lawrencetown eastward), I'd suggest our place and put on a good big pot of coffee!

Obviously, you'd be welcome to come before 7:30, but I know you like to hang out all evening...

Sorry for such last-minute heads-up! I promise if there is a next time, which we shall avoid of course, that we'll be much more prompt at getting the word out to you, our favorite knitters.

love Mike and Lisa - of the Wired Monk

I left early in the morning after the SWAP and just got back yesterday - so I haven't had a chance to add my hearty thanks to Ninja... It was such a crazy and fun evening.

I have to work all day and night today to make up for my week off - so I won't be around tonight.
